Human Resources Systems in Post-Conflict Countries

Human resources for health, in other words - health workers - are often seriously affected by situations of violence and conflict.  This project is being undertaken in collaboration with colleagues (led by Dr Noriko Fujita) based at the National Centre for Global Health in Tokyo, Japan (see photo).  The project includes a focus on conceptualising how human resource systems are established, and the associated evidence base, in countries which have experienced major periods of conflict.

The first publication conceptualised the "house model" for human resource system development in countries such as Afghanistan, Cambodia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.  Current research is being undertaken in the latter two countries and will lead to publications and policy advice on how best to support emerging human resource systems.

Related work has been undertaken by Professor Zwi in Timor-Leste.  We are interested in exploring human resource issues and the role of the international community in other countries too.  Get in touch if you are interested.
