‘Beyond resettlement to sustainable solutions’. Improving the protection of refugee women at girls at risk and other vulnerable groups – Trialling community involvement in the expanded use of the UNHCR Heightened Risk Assessment Tool

Funding agency: DIAC Displaced Persons Program
Duration: 2011-early 2013

The project is developing and trialling an innovative community based response to the protection of women and girls at risk and other vulnerable  refugees groups which include older people, children and adolescents, women and girls at risk, persons with legal and physical protection needs and persons with disabilities and chronic health problems. It is a two-stage Project: Stage 1 involved extensive community consultation, and consultation with partner staff to establish program and training needs to enable the community to respond to SGBV and some of its causes, such as lack of livelihoods. The outcomes of the consultations are the design of community based programs and training modules.  Stage 2 involves the employment of at least two refugee community workers, the trialling of the training materials and the establishment of three refugee led community projects.  The Project outputs will include the completion of a series of training and program design tools which will be portable across refugee sites internationally.  The project is being implemented in New Delhi, India in partnership with UNHCR.
